Established in 1868 by Theodor von Gimborn, Probat heralded a new era in coffee roasting innovation. The company swiftly gained acclaim by developing efficient roasting machines that set new industry benchmarks. From the late 19th to the early 20th century, Probat expanded its product range, catering to the needs of both small artisanal roasters and large-scale industrial operations.

Post-World War II, Probat played a pivotal role in rejuvenating the coffee industry, introducing advanced roasters that revolutionised efficiency and ease of use. This era also marked Probat’s triumphant expansion into international markets, cementing its global presence and earning widespread acclaim.

As we entered the digital age in the latter part of the 20th century, Probat quickly embraced the technology, introducing computer-controlled roasters that set new standards for precision and consistency. Today, Probat stands tall, leading the industry with an unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and quality, ensuring that every roast is a testament to our high standards.

Probat continues to lead the coffee roasting industry today with its innovative and high-quality products. Coffee professionals worldwide use Probat’s roasters, from small artisanal roasters to large commercial operations, ensuring that every cup of coffee is perfect.

Probatone: Drum roasting is the most common roasting method. Here, the coffee is roasted in a drum that rotates around a horizontal axis. The PROBATONE shop roasters use specially developed shovel mechanisms to move the beans inside the drum. A surface burner heats the roasting air before it is sucked through the back wall of the drum as well as guided around it, thus roasting the beans not only via convective but also conductive heat transfer. With roasting capacities ranging from 17 to 85 kilograms of roast coffee per hour (kg/h), the PROBATONE shop roasters are particularly suitable for small to medium-sized roasting facilities with high-quality demands on the product.

For over 150 years, Probat has transformed the coffee roasting industry by combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced technology. These state-of-the-art roasters ensure precise control and consistency that enhance each coffee bean’s unique flavours and aromas, catering to artisanal and large-scale operations.

Technology highlights:

  1. Consistently high-quality coffee: Thermocouples for recording machine- and process-related data enable optimum control over the roasting process for constant and reproducible results.
  2. Flexibility: The extended batch size range and individually controllable frequency converters ensure maximum flexibility in the aroma development of different coffee types. The adjustable cooling sieve outlet allows flexible installation.
  3. Efficiency: The simultaneous roasting and cooling process shortens cycle times, and the optimised thermal insulation ensures energy efficiency.
  4. Individuality: The traditional look can be rounded off according to personal preference by adapting the colour of the roasting machine body, the hood, and different front design parts—it’s guaranteed to be unique for every roastery!
